Cold-chain transport begins with a written product specification. The vehicle must be suitable and conditioned, but it cannot rapidly correct goods presented at the wrong temperature. The shipper should define the range, packaging, evidence and action if readings move outside tolerance.
What should a refrigerated booking specify?
A refrigerated booking should state the product, required load-space range, presentation temperature, package configuration, weight, airflow needs, loading duration and monitoring method. Include written escalation instructions and named contacts so the driver and operations team know what to do if collection, transit or delivery conditions change.

Set point vs product temperature
The set point controls the refrigeration unit; product temperature describes the goods. They are related but not interchangeable. Door opening, loading time, packaging, airflow and thermal mass affect readings. Agree where temperatures are measured and which evidence governs acceptance rather than interpreting one display reading after delivery.

What happens after a temperature excursion?
An excursion should trigger the written escalation plan, not an automatic decision by the driver. Operations records the time, reading, location and conditions, then contacts the authorised customer representative. The owner or qualified decision-maker determines whether to continue, quarantine, redirect or reject the goods.
