Vehicle-mounted lifting

HIAB Crane and Moffett Transport

Transport and unloading planned as one controlled operation, based on the load and the site.

Should the job use a HIAB crane or a Moffett forklift?

A HIAB suits loads lifted from the vehicle to a defined landing point, subject to reach, radius and ground conditions. A Moffett suits palletised goods that need to be carried from the vehicle across a suitable surface. Load geometry and site access decide the equipment, not preference alone.

EquipmentBest-fit conditions
HIAB craneLift radius is known, outriggers can deploy safely and a clear landing zone is available.
Moffett forkliftThe load is fork-compatible and the travel surface can support a truck-mounted forklift.
Tail liftThe load is compatible with rated platform dimensions and safe manual or pallet-truck movement.
Site craneThe principal contractor controls a planned lift and only transport to the lifting zone is needed.
Forklift unloading palletised freight beside an open lorry trailer
Self-unloading capability depends on access, surface and placement distance.

What must a lifting plan establish before arrival?

The plan must confirm load weight, centre of gravity, lifting points, equipment capacity at the required radius, ground stability, overhead hazards, exclusion zones and supervision. HSE guidance requires lifting operations to be properly planned by a competent person, appropriately supervised and carried out safely.

  • Verified load weight and dimensions
  • Lift radius and final placement point
  • Outrigger space and ground-bearing condition
  • Overhead lines, structures and public-interface risks

Open-body transport suits freight that cannot pass through standard rear doors.

Controlled from booking to delivery.

Standard milestone updates follow the consignment from confirmation to delivery. Live GPS tracking can be provided on request, while operations remains the control point for progress and exceptions.

  1. Booking confirmed

Operations checks the route, load, timing and contacts.

  2. Driver assigned

The allocated driver and collection plan are confirmed.

  3. Goods collected

Collection is recorded and the direct movement begins.

  4. En route

Operations provides progress and exception updates.

  5. Delivery complete

Proof of delivery closes the transport record.

Proof that closes the job

Proof of delivery records the recipient name, signature, delivery timestamp and photograph. The completed record is returned after handover.

Verified Trustpilot review

How is a specialist lift-delivery job controlled?

Operations review load evidence and site photographs before nominating equipment. The responsible parties agree access, setup, exclusion and landing arrangements. On arrival, the operator verifies that conditions match the plan. If the ground, access or lifting zone is unsafe, the lift pauses until controls are corrected.

  1. 01

    Survey the requirement

Record weight, dimensions, lifting points, placement, radius and site restrictions.

  2. 02

    Match the equipment

Select a HIAB, Moffett or alternative based on capacity and operating conditions.

  3. 03

    Confirm site control

Agree access, traffic management, ground condition, exclusion zone and responsible contact.

  4. 04

    Execute and record

Complete the lift within the agreed plan and return signed delivery evidence.

Quote preparation

What information produces an accurate quote?

Route, timing, cargo, handling constraints and site conditions determine the usable vehicle plan. Complete information lets operations qualify the work without avoidable assumptions.

  • 01Verified weight and dimensions
  • 02Load photographs and lifting points
  • 03Required lift radius
  • 04Site and access photographs
  • 05Ground and overhead conditions
  • 06Named site contact and booking slot
