Delivery control 01

How is a timed delivery different from standard ETA tracking?

A timed delivery starts with a contractual or operational handover window and plans collection, contingency and site access around it. Standard ETA tracking estimates arrival after dispatch. For timed work, the delivery deadline drives vehicle choice, departure time, route margin, communication points and escalation decisions before the vehicle moves.

  • Retail centre or construction booking slot
  • Production line or engineer attendance deadline
  • Exhibition build-up and breakdown access
  • Court, laboratory or professional-service cut-off

Accurate package counts, dimensions and weights support correct vehicle allocation.

Which variables create the real delivery risk?

Distance alone rarely defines timed-delivery risk. Collection readiness, driver-hours constraints, urban restrictions, vehicle size, loading duration, parking, security and recipient availability can each consume the contingency. A credible plan separates the road journey from the complete door-to-door process and assigns escalation contacts for both ends.

How is the delivery plan built backwards from the deadline?

Operations confirms the handover window first, then calculates the latest safe collection point using handling time, route conditions and contingency. The named contacts receive the plan before dispatch. During transit, material changes are communicated early enough for the customer to protect labour, access bookings or downstream production decisions.

  1. 01

    Fix the handover condition

Confirm the delivery window, recipient, access method and acceptable proof.

  2. 02

    Set the collection gate

Define when goods, paperwork and loading resources must be ready.

  3. 03

    Allocate contingency

Allow for route, access, handling and operational restrictions based on the lane.

  4. 04

    Escalate by exception

Report any material threat to the slot with a revised decision-ready ETA.

Controlled from booking to delivery.

Standard milestone updates follow the consignment from confirmation to delivery. Live GPS tracking can be provided on request, while operations remains the control point for progress and exceptions.

  1. Booking confirmed

Operations checks the route, load, timing and contacts.

  2. Driver assigned

The allocated driver and collection plan are confirmed.

  3. Goods collected

Collection is recorded and the direct movement begins.

  4. En route

Operations provides progress and exception updates.

  5. Delivery complete

Proof of delivery closes the transport record.

Proof that closes the job

Proof of delivery records the recipient name, signature, delivery timestamp and photograph. The completed record is returned after handover.
